Trio League

Trio League is a spring team event run on Tennis Asylum. Teams of three play each week, rotating between singles and doubles each set. Tennis Asylum assigns the teams automatically, balanced by dynamic rating with men and women matched perfectly, so every team is competitive.

How it works

  • Sign up on your own. Tennis Asylum splits everyone into teams of 8 or more whose players add up as evenly as possible (women’s ratings count 0.50 lower, and players who often miss days count a little less). Each team has a captain.
  • On a match day, each captain brings 3 players. There are three rounds, each with one singles set and one doubles set (six sets in all): in each round one of your three plays singles and the other two play doubles. By default each team’s weakest player plays the other team’s weakest in singles in round 1, the next-weakest in round 2, and the strongest in round 3.
  • Scoring. Full sets, with a 7-point tiebreak at 6–6. The set’s winner scores 8 points and the loser the games won (6–4 is 8–4; 7–6 is 8–6). Teams are ranked by average points per match day.
  • Availability. Everyone fills in a season chart up front (yes, maybe or no for each weekly date), which helps Tennis Asylum plan who plays when and keep play as equal as possible. You are still asked to confirm your availability 24 hours before your captain’s lineup comes out.
