New Slide Scoreboards

WTC members will be pleased to know that all six of our courts now have brand new Slide Scoreboards permanently installed. These scoreboards are UV resistant, as they are made from UV-treated polyethylene – a material that is far more durable and robust than wood or metal.

We have had the pleasure of having one of these scorecards on court 1 for some time now. Since it proved to be as durable as advertised (unaffected by the sun and impervious to Reno’s unforgiving wind), we put scorecards up at the rest of the courts.

WTC previously used flip card scorecards. These scorecards were prone to acting like weathervanes in even the mildest of breezes, not to mention cards flipping around to random scores on their own in heavier wind. The cards sometimes broke/fell off and needed to be replaced, and on occasion, cards were installed wrong, causing one side of the scorecards to show a different score than the other.

Perhaps the biggest disadvantage of the old scorecards was that flipping cards was somewhat of a hassle, especially between sets, but even sometimes during a routine changeover when players inevitably start to flip cards the wrong way. This can be inconvenient and disrupt the flow of the game. The new scoreboards make updating the score as quick and convenient as currently possible in the game of tennis!

The new scoreboards will score 2-out-of-3 sets, 8-game pro sets, and 10-point tiebreakers.
