Please Return Court Squeegees to the North Side of the Shed
At Washoe Tennis Club, we all appreciate the dedicated members who take the time to roll off standing water after rain so the courts can dry faster and play can resume sooner.
Unfortunately, we’ve had a recurring issue: after use, some rollers are left lying on the court instead of being returned to their proper storage spot. When temperatures drop overnight, any remaining water can freeze around the roller, bonding it to the court surface. The next person who comes along to move it often ends up straining or breaking the handle (second picture below), and/or tearing the roller pad as it gets yanked free from the ice.

This small oversight leads to unnecessary (and expensive) purchases of new equipment. A quick reminder for everyone:
- After rolling off water, please hang the roller up on the north side of the shed.
- If ice has already formed around it, don’t force it—notify a board member or use warm water to gently thaw it first to avoid damage.
In warm weather, it’s equally important to keep rollers stored in the shade of the north side of the shed, because direct sunlight and high temperatures can seriously damage the rollers. Prolonged exposure causes the material to dry out unevenly. The side facing the sun shrinks and hardens faster than the shaded side, which warps the roller.
Our courts are among the best in Reno thanks to everyone’s care and volunteer spirit. A simple habit like putting equipment back where it belongs helps keep them that way for all of us.
