We Have a New Name!

On April 9, 2022, the Reno Tennis Club board voted to change our name to Washoe Tennis Club.  We have a long history as the Reno Tennis Club, but this name change will be more consistent with the sign people see when they arrive at the courts, not to mention the fact that everyone calls our courts “Washoe” in casual conversation. No longer will people find “Reno Tennis Club” on Google Maps, only to arrive at “Washoe Tennis Center” in real life.

Newcomers (and even some people who have been here a while) may not realize that the geographical name of the courts is Washoe Tennis Center, while the name of the organization that maintains/ manages the courts used to be Reno Tennis Club. It makes more sense for the organization taking care of the Washoe Tennis Center to be named the Washoe Tennis Club.

The name change will involve quite a process over the next month or two with the city, county, and state. In some cases, a literal name change is possible, while in other cases, we must “close” the old entity (RTC) and “open” the new one (WTC), such as with the bank and with Google/Apple Maps. Your dedicated WTC board members will be working diligently to get this done as soon as possible.

Along with this name change will come other changes, the first of which is this new website. More changes to come!
