From the President – 2019 Q3

Winter is on its way and soon our courts will see rain, snow and ice. It’s our responsibility, as members of the Reno Tennis Club, to responsibly clear the courts without damaging them. We have a snow blower, that can be used by members (only after training by Ray Woolley or another trained Board member), in the event of a large snowfall to clear off most of the snow. But some snow will remain after the use of the snowblower. This snow and any ice should be removed only with the plastic shovels the club owns. No metal shovels or other metal implements should be used to remove snow or ice as the metal implements can easily damage the court surface. Help us maintain and protect the best courts in Reno.

As the snow and ice melts, puddles will form. In the case of deep puddles, the blower can be used, by members (only after proper training), to blow off most of the water – but the blower cannot be used to completely dry the courts. Long rubber squeegees are available to remove smaller puddles – but they will not be able to dry the courts either. Rollers should be used to spread out the remaining water, so that the sun can dry the courts. Members should spread the water out and don’t try to completely dry the court with just a roller, it will quickly wear out the rollers.
